With well-trodden bare board throughout, Bookshop Alehouse is a small micro with high tables along the front windows and a large full bookcase to the left that overlooks four central tables. Steps, and a ramp, lead up to the serving counter at the rear that is covered with lots of stickers. Four keg and four cask products are available, the latter being Electric Bear Brewing’s Forget About Dray, Elusive Brewing’s Jetpug, Alfred’s Brewery’s Saxon Blonde and Steam Town Brew Co’s Salus Populi. Food isn’t available but customers are invited to bring in take-aways, cutlery will be provided. I thought the cask range was interesting and I enjoyed the Electric Bear Stout, so I’d have no issue popping back in.

Another mid-teens opening Southampton micro but easily the runt of the litter as far as I’m concerned. One other customer, no atmosphere (just like a library, ironically) and also no heating on a chilly day. Scruffy floor and a bored barman. The Brew York had a twang to it that wasn't right (NBSS 1.5). All a bit depressing and I dumped the excess and moved on far more swiftly than I had planned.

Quirky little community bookshop/micropub, friendly, good beer. Wooden floors and relaxing and alround nice place to visit. Short walk from St Denys railway station.
